Dental implants are the most effective way to replace one or more missing teeth. If you’re wondering ‘where can I get the best dental implants near me?’, look no further than M Dental. We are thrilled to offer this unique treatment and have seen first-hand how it changes lives.

If you’re feeling apprehensive about replacing your teeth, you’ll want to ensure you’re armed with the facts before going ahead. Read on to learn everything you need to know about this unique and life-changing treatment:

How do dental implants work?

If you’re about to undergo implant treatment, chances are you have some idea about what’s involved. But just in case you’re not sure, here’s a simple explanation of what the treatment is and how it works its magic.

This transformative solution for missing teeth simulates your natural oral anatomy as closely as possible. Many patients say dental implants feel no different to their other teeth after some time.

Implants are made up of two parts: a titanium ‘root’, and a porcelain ‘crown’. The former element is placed into your jaw and fuses with your bone over time, becoming a permanent fixture. The latter element screws on top of the ‘root’, acting as an artificial tooth.

What is the treatment process?

If you’re replacing your teeth with dental implants you can expect a simple three-step treatment process:

1. Step one - your consultation

We will meet you for the first time and get to know all about your dental concerns. Once we have a good idea of your problems, we will explain how we can help you overcome them with implant treatment.

We will also inform you of all the potential treatment options, risks, benefits, and costs. It’s the perfect chance for you to ask questions and go into the procedure armed with all the facts.

At M Dental, we have invested in cutting-edge technology, including 3D scanners, to help us plan your treatment at the consultation stage. We will even use these to show you a simulation of what your smile could look like after treatment!

2. Step two - the placement

Trust us - this part is often relatively painless and not as daunting as you might expect! We always administer a local anaesthetic before the procedure and can offer IV sedation for particularly nervous patients.

Placing your dental implants usually takes around 20 minutes per tooth. In most cases, we will temporarily replace your missing tooth with a crown until we fit your permanent replacement tooth.

3. Step three - fitting your replacement tooth

Around three to four months after your placement, the titanium implant will have fused with your jaw in a process called ‘osseointegration’. This means it is fixed firmly within your jawbone - it won’t move around or come loose like a denture.

We will take an impression of your tooth and send it to a dental lab. They will tailor-make a crown (artificial tooth) that matches your natural teeth perfectly. Around two weeks later, we will see you for your last visit, where we screw the crown into your implant.

How should you care for your new dental implants?

Dental implants can last more than 30 years, meaning they’re an incredible permanent solution for missing teeth. However, they require the same amount of care and attention as natural teeth do!

Here are some simple steps to follow if you want to maximise the lifespan of your new teeth:

  • Brush for two minutes twice a day and always use floss or interdental brushes. This routine will prevent tooth decay and gum disease - healthy teeth and gums can guarantee the long-lasting results of your dental implants.

  • If you smoke, you should quit. It seriously damages your teeth, gums, and respiratory system and increases your risk of oral cancer.

  • Visit your dental hygienist every six months (or as regularly as your dentist recommends) to prevent plaque and tartar build-up around your implants.

  • Schedule regular check-ups with your dentist so that they can monitor your oral health and check that all is in order with your dental implants.
