Sedation Dentistry: Your Guide to Stress-Free Dental Treatment

Sedation Dentistry: Your Guide to Stress-Free Dental Treatment
Sedation dentistry helps patients who experience dental anxiety, have a low pain threshold, need extensive treatment, or have a strong gag reflex. At M Dental, we offer several sedation options to ensure your comfort during dental treatment.

Who Can Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is suitable for patients who:
  • Experience dental anxiety or phobia
  • Have had traumatic dental experiences in the past
  • Need extensive or lengthy dental treatment
  • Have a strong gag reflex
  • Have difficulty getting numb with local anaesthetic
  • Require special care due to medical conditions or disabilities

Sedation Options at M Dental

IV Sedation (arranged via a specialist) For deeper relaxation, M Dental can arrange intravenous (IV) sedation with a trusted external sedation specialist. You stay safely monitored throughout and usually remember little of the treatment. Because IV sedation is longer-acting, you will need someone to accompany you home afterwards and should not drive for the rest of the day. Ideal for moderate to severe anxiety. Oral Sedation Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed sedative tablet approximately one hour before your appointment. The medication reduces anxiety and promotes relaxation. You remain conscious and can respond to instructions, but you may feel drowsy and have limited memory of the procedure. With oral sedation, you will need someone to accompany you to and from your appointment. IV Sedation (Intravenous Sedation) For patients with severe dental phobia or those undergoing complex procedures, IV sedation provides a deeper level of relaxation. The sedative is administered directly into your bloodstream, producing a rapid, controlled effect. Most patients have little to no memory of the procedure. IV sedation requires a seditionist to administer and monitor throughout the treatment.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?

Sedation dentistry is very safe when administered by trained professionals. At M Dental, all sedation is administered by qualified clinicians who monitor your vital signs throughout the procedure. We will discuss your medical history to determine the most appropriate sedation option for you.
